The International Research Center for Sport and Gender Equality (SGE) of Seijo University committed to "Post Sports for Tomorrow Promotion Project" (ASEAN-Japan Actions on Sports: Gender Equality) in 2024. SGE was selected for this project in 2 consecutive years.
This project is one of the post-Sports for Tomorrow projects to carry on the legacy of Sports for Tomorrow (SFT)*, the international exchange and cooperation program through sports initiated by the Japanese government towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Based on the agreement from the ASEAN Plus Japan Ministerial Meeting on Sports, ASEAN and Japan have been cooperating in promoting the participation of women and girls in sports in ASEAN. This project aims to improve women's participation in sports and promote gender equality by providing support for sports policy planning, taking into account the actual situation in each ASEAN country.
Since last year, SGE has been implementing the project based on the four-year plan. This year, the SGE will conduct; surveys and research to identify issues related to gender in each country, provide support and workshops to the 10 ASEAN countries to collect data to monitor their policies to promote gender equality, and disseminate about the project both domestically and internationally.
Through this project, SGE will research the role and potential of sport to promote diverse gender/ diverse sexual equality and international cooperation and collaboration for this purpose. And aim to make international academic contributions to this area.

Deputy Director (Project Leader on Actions on Sports: Gender Equality) Aya Noguchi
All of us at SGE are pleased to continue to be involved in this project as we were last year, and we are determined to move forward with our plans for the second year.
In 2024, we will more communicate closely with each country to ensure that we will be able to provide support which is based on each country's interests and the issues it faces. We will also focus on visualizing the progress of each country so that the ASEAN countries can work together to stimulate each other's efforts. We will work on creating more opportunities for the ASEAN countries to present their policies and initiatives on an international scale to amplify what we aim for: gender equality as well.
*Sports for Tomorrow
Sport for Tomorrow (SFT) is an international exchange and cooperation program based on the commitment of the Japanese government. We aim to realize a sustainable society utilizing the power of sport and tackling social challenges in each country.
To date, through public-private partnerships, the program has reached more than 13 million people in 204 countries and regions all over the world (as of the end of September 2021).
Today, as Post Sports for Tomorrow, it continues to carry on the legacy of networks and knowledge and aims to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through international cooperation projects in sports.
